- What is Brassinolide?
Brassinolide is a plant hormone broadly existing in plants, especially in pollen. It works at every stage of the plant growth, promotes the stem elongation and cell division, facilitates the fertilization, etc. The natural Brassinolide was first extracted from rape pollen. Now it is regarded as the most highly-active, broad-spectrum and non-toxic PGR.
- Industrialization of Brassinolide
In China, the resource of rape pollen is very rich. And the by-products when extracting Brassinolide can be used to decrease the production cost. Thus it makes the realization of Brassinolide industrialization possible. However because of its low dosage(very high-effective) and high price, it is estimated that the whole production of Brassinolide in China is about 200 tons per year at present.
- Application of Brassinolide
Studies on fruit like strawberry, grape and citrus show that Brassinolide can increase the ratio of fruit setting, help the fruit growth to increase the yield, and improve their coloring, shape and taste. Brassinolide has no affect on the the VC content of them, but can raise the content of soluble solid substance or sugar to some different degrees. The change can be noted from the increase of flower number, bigger and greener leaves in the strawberry test field.
Studies on vegetables like tomato, cucumber, chili, etc show that Brassinolide enhances the yield by about 10%, on celery about 30%.
When applied on food crops, Brassinolide also shows its magic ability of increasing production. At the full heading stage of rice, spaying Brassinolide can control the height of crop, increases the grain filling and grain weight. When wheat is seed-treated with Brassinolide, seeds germination and seeds vigor is obviously enhanced. In test of maize, the use of Brassinolide makes the root stronger, improves the ability of resistance to insects and diseases.
Besides, Brassinolide can strengthen the ability of crops to resist harsh environment like cold, drought, salt, etc. And it can relieve the harmful stress from herbicides, for example of Ethametsulfuron-methyl on rice and corn when applied at suitable concentration.
- Use of Brassinolide
As single formulation: seed-treatment, foliar spraying
Mix with foliar fertilizers (avoid alkaline ones): Different with fertilizers, Brassinolide is endogenous to plants. When used together, the absorption, transportation and distribution of nutrient within the plant is improved.
Mix with pesticides (avoid alkaline ones): Speed up the rate of pesticide degradation within the crop thus help mitigate the residue problem. For example of 1000 tons fungicides, add 2 g Brassinolide technical.
Mix with other PGRs: mix with Gibberellic acid and fertilizer, mix with DA-6 and ethophon, etc
